Like Magic, Hogwarts Legacy Tops The UK Physical Sales Charts Once Again

The UK physical sales chart for early 2025 is in, and once again, Hogwarts Legacy has worked its magic to claim the top spot. What's more striking is the chart's lack of new 2024 releases—only three titles from last year made the list.

Circana analyst Mat Piscatella shared his thoughts on the matter, pointing out a concerning trend in the gaming industry: "The list of most played games today looks nearly identical to 2018. That’s my hill to die on, and it’s not a good sign for the overall industry."

Despite this, Hogwarts Legacy continues its impressive run, now having charted 100 times and with over 30 million copies sold. EA Sports FC 25 holds the second spot, while Elden Ring has made a surprising return to third place—likely boosted by holiday sales. It's worth noting that Elden Ring was last reported at 28.6 million units sold, so it’s clearly not struggling.

Meanwhile, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has slipped to fourth, marking its lowest position since launch, a significant moment considering how expensive it is to produce Call of Duty games.

Here’s the UK Sales Chart for the week ending January 4th, 2025:

  1. Hogwarts Legacy
  2. EA Sports FC 25
  3. Elden Ring
  4. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
  5. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  6. Super Mario Party Jamboree
  7. Nintendo Switch Sports
