New Dead Rising Game Set In Hollywood Reportedly In Development

A new Dead Rising game is reportedly in development at Capcom, and this time the zombie chaos is heading to Hollywood. Multiple reports and leaks claim it will be a brand‑new mainline entry, not a remake, bringing Frank West back as the lead and trapping him in an infested movie studio lot run by a deranged director.

Frank West Goes To Hollywood

According to these reports, the project is codenamed “REC” and has been in development for a few years, aiming to act as a direct sequel to the original Dead Rising, possibly set somewhere before the events of Dead Rising 2. Frank West returns with his iconic camera in hand, continuing the series’ focus on snapping photos while slicing through hordes of zombies.

The big twist this time is the setting. Instead of a mall or town, the game is said to take place on a huge enclosed Hollywood movie studio lot, with themed sets and stages providing the backdrop for the outbreak. Early details suggest you will be moving between different film sets – think medieval, sci‑fi, and more – all repurposed as brutal arenas for zombie slaying and survivor rescuing.

A Crazed Director And Deadly Trials

The main villain is reportedly an extravagant, unhinged film director who traps Frank and other survivors on the lot and forces them through deadly “trials” in the name of creating his perfect movie. Survivors are expected to return as actors and crew hiding around the studio, tying into the classic Dead Rising loop of tracking people down and getting them to safety while everything falls apart.

Psychopath encounters are also said to be coming back, including at least one character with a bomb strapped to their chest whose job is to film the chaos – a very Dead Rising way of poking fun at spectacle and exploitation. Reports also tease the return of time limits and the series’ trademark freedom to improvise with weapons and thrown objects, answering some of the biggest complaints fans had with Dead Rising 4.

Still A Rumour, But Momentum Is Real

Capcom has not officially announced this Hollywood‑set Dead Rising yet, so everything so far sits in the “credible rumour” category, backed by multiple outlets and insiders. However, after last year’s Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster and Capcom publicly stating it wants to expand the series again, the idea of a full new sequel lines up with the publisher’s recent moves.

If the reports are accurate, Dead Rising’s return could lean hard into what made the series special in the first place: tight time pressure, ridiculous weapons, dark humor, and a big, themed playground full of zombies to experiment on – this time with all the absurdity a Hollywood backlot can offer.
